Dead Sea Day Trip from Amman
Plan a Dead Sea day trip from Amman with private transportation, practical visit tips, and fixed pricing.
Plan your time at the Dead Sea
Most visitors spend 2 to 4 hours at the water — floating, applying mineral mud, and relaxing at the shore. A half-day is genuinely satisfying. A full day allows a more relaxed pace and the option to visit the Baptism Site of Jesus (Al-Maghtas) nearby, which adds approximately 1.5 hours.
Direct beach access outside resort properties is very limited on the northern Dead Sea shore. Most floating experiences are accessed through resort hotels that charge a day-use fee covering beach entry, facilities (showers, changing rooms), and sometimes a chair or towel. Day-use fees are not included in the transportation price.
What to bring and nearby visits
Bring a swimsuit, a dark-coloured towel or one you don't mind staining (the mineral mud can mark light fabrics), water shoes or sandals for the rocky shoreline, plenty of fresh water to drink, sunscreen, and a change of clothes. Avoid shaving within 24 hours of your visit — the salt concentration makes any small cuts extremely uncomfortable.
The Baptism Site (Al-Maghtas) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site approximately 15 to 20 minutes north of the main Dead Sea resort area. Many visitors combine the two. Mention this when customising your route and your driver will plan the timing.
The Dead Sea is approximately 55 to 65 kilometres west of Amman, depending on your departure point. Via the Jordan Valley Road (Route 65), the drive takes 50 to 65 minutes. It is one of the shortest full day trips from Amman — making it ideal even for travellers with only a partial day available.
